19C CROSS OF SOULS Mexican Votive Offering ANTIQUE
19th Century Mexican Cruz de Animas (Cross of Souls). The cross and base are made of mezquite wood and have the original polychrme. In the center of the cross there is a carving of the face of Jesus which has had the crown torn away and bears signs of aging. The cross is in excellent condition with only some scratches to the paint. The base has images of the holy ghost and the vatican and is adorned with two anima wood carvings representing the souls of the people for whom this cross is an offering, Te figures have had their arms torn off and the one on the left has had a crude restoration.
