18C MEXICAN SCHOOL Oil/Canvas CORONATION OF THE VIRGIN
You're looking at a stunning representation of the Coronation of the Virgin by the Holy Trinity. God is in the center about to place a gold crown on the head of the Virgin Mary while helped by Jesus Christ on his right and the Holy Spirit on his left. Jesus bears the signs of the crucifixion and has a sheep on his chest. The Holy Spirit is represented by the image of a dove in his chest. At the bottom we can see St. Joachim and St. Anne, parents of Mary looking proudly up at this great event. The painting is an original 18th Century Mexican Colonial School piece. It's in very good condition with little evidence of restoration which is rare for a piece of this period.
